Comparing Real Estate Properties

When looking to buy a house, there are many factors to consider.  It can often be difficult to decide between multiple properties.  One way to combat this problem is to make a list beforehand of all the qualities you desire in your home and all of your non-negotiables.  When you have a clear vision of what you desire in a home, it will eliminate some of the confusion and indecision in comparing more than one property.

One great idea is to bring a notebook and camera with you while house-hunting.  After a long day of touring one home after another, it can be difficult to pay attention to the little details.  Taking notes and pictures of the properties you see can allow you to make the appropriate comparisons and remember the details of each property.

Examples of what to take note of include the size and how well the property is maintained.  Take note of the location and the neighborhood as well.  It’s also best to pay attention to the various amenities that make the property unique or unusual in any way.  This process can help you organize your thoughts and feelings about the different properties.  It will also familiarize you with each property’s pros and cons.

At the end of the day, follow your gut and be honest with yourself about which property you like best.  Maybe it’s a different floor plan or neighborhood than you originally had in mind, but that’s not a big deal.  It’s okay to change your mind!  This is especially true when you find the home that makes you have a hard time imagining living anywhere else.
